Phil Laak Defends PartyPoker World Open Title

Phil Laak is in London and is set to defend the PartyPoker World Open Title that he won in 2009.

His job won’t easy as this year’s line up features a very tough field made up of some of the best poker players around.

The PartyPoker event is an exclusive tournament and features 48 star entrants who pay $10,000 each to take part. The total prize pool will be $480,000.

Last year, he took down the coveted trophy and won $250,000 for 1st place.

Star Studded Poker Event

The Unabomber plans a repeat win this year, but the path to victory will not be an easy one. His starting heat features European Poker Tour winner Toby Lewis and WSOP Main Event Champ Huck Seed. One thing is for certain, getting to the final table will not be a walk in the park.

Laak’s girlfriend Jennifer Tilly, who made last year’s final table, as well as Mike Sexton, will be back this year and pitted against each other in the same heat. David “Devilfish” Ulliott, Juha Helppi and Sorel Mizzi will also be involved.

Another tough heat includes poker brat Luke Schwartz, Full Tilt pro Annette Obrestad, David “Viffer” Peat, EPT founder John Duthie, PartyPoker Italy pro Giovanni Safina, and the Hendon Mob’s Barny Boatman.

Other big names taking part in the event include World Poker Tour champ Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Jake Cody who just won the WPT London event as well as an EPT event earlier this year. Aussie Millions winner Tyron Krost, poker triple crown winner (WSOP, EPT & WPT) Roland De Wolfe and high stakes pro Tom Dwan will also be challenging for the title.

Stay tuned for more updates on this great event.
