Phil Laak came all so close to winning another bracelet at this year’s World Series of Poker when he finished 4th in the $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo Event.  His finish was good enough to add $133,000 more to his bankroll.

The Unabomber has continued to show strong finishes through large poker fields.  Having won his first bracelet in the WSOP Europe Six Handed No Limit Hold’em Event in late 2010, he continued his strong performances by finishing in 12th place in the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo Championship Event and in 28th place at the $10,000 Six Handed No Limit Hold’em Championship Event during the 2011 Series.

He would top off his great performances with this amazing 4th place finish as he battled his way through a field of 352 entrants to nearly claim another bracelet.

The final table consisted of many tough opponents including Nick Schulman, a World Poker Tour and WSOP bracelet winner who would eventually be eliminated in 7th place.

David Bach, the 2009 WSOP $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship winner and 2010 Aussie Millions H.O.R.S.E. Champion would be a tough challenger eventually finishing as the runner-up in this tournament.

Nick Binger, now with over $2 million in tournament winnings would claim his first WSOP bracelet beating out a tough field to claim the $397,000 prize.

Unabomber Poker Accepting American Players

Unabomber Poker continues to accept American poker players as it was not targeted by the U.S. Department of Justice and remains unaffected by their actions against other poker sites.

Phil Laak went deep in the World Series of Poker $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo Championship Event finishing just short of the final table in 12th place. He cashed $37,000 for his efforts.

However, for the second time in this year’s World Series, Hellmuth would finish as runner-up, falling short once again.

Earlier this Series, Hellmuth was the runner-up in the Deuce to Seven Draw Lowball Championship Event. Despite his record 11 bracelets, he has yet to win one in a non-Hold’em event.

Phil Laak has joined the cast of High Stakes Poker midway into Season 7.

His arrival coincided with an entire switch up of the table with all of the original players who appeared earlier in the season being replaced, with the exception of Barry Greenstein who remained.

The new line-up included World Series of Poker Champion Jonathan Duhamel and PokerStars Team Pro Jason Mercier.

Also featured were Mike Baxter, Haralabos Voulgaris, Julian Movsesian and Bill Perkins.

The players all bought in for $200,000 which represents the new minimum buy-in in the game boosting the total amount of money in play.

The Unabomber would have a relatively quiet night winning around $5,000 in the episode.

The episode’s big winner would be none other than the reigning WSOP Champ who won over $100,000.

Duhamel would take down an almost $100,000 pot when he raised Bill Perkins’ straddle to $4,200 with Q5 in a late position steal attempt.  Movsesian held AK in the big blind and made the call while Perkins folded his hand.  The flop came 586 rainbow, with Movsesian check-calling Duhamel’s $5,500 continuation bet.  The turn was an Ace giving Movsesian the card he was looking for.  He checked from early position and Duhamel wisely checked behind.  The river was another 5 giving Duhamel three-of-a-kind.  Unsuspectingly, Movsesian bet out for $10,000 looking for value from his AK hand and Duhamel raised up to $32,300.  Movsesian called to see the bad news.

Phil Laak took the opportunity to add “That’s how they win $9 million, kids.”

In a later hand, Lady Luck would again shine on the Champ as his nut flush draw connected on the turn against Baxter’s flopped set.  Baxter fired out $11,000 on the flop and was called.  The turn brought the flush and Baxter check-called Duhamel’s bet for $17,600.  The river was a blank and once again Baxter check-called a bet of $33,500.  Duhamel took down the $100,000+ pot to make him the night’s big winner.

Phil Laak has been eliminated in 22nd place at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Super High Roller Event.

This is the highest buy-in tournament in the world with players paying $100,000 to take part.

The event attracted the game’s biggest stars with 38 of the world’s best showing up.

Laak’s good buddies Antonio Esfandiari and Andrew Robl both took part.

The PokerStars Pro Team was also out in force with Daniel Negreanu, Humberto Brenes, Jason Mercier and WSOP 2010 Champion Jonathan Duhamel all playing.

This event is a big one to win with the first place finisher being paid a whopping $1.5 million!

Phil Laak Eliminated

After barely surviving the first day’s action, the Unabomber showed up on the 2nd day as a short stack that needed to make a move at the table to get his hands on some more chips or head to the rail.

Disappointingly, it was to be the latter.

He got all his money in with Kd4d against the AcJc of Caio Pimentia.

The flop brought a J and there was no help to come for Phil and he was eliminated.
